The Palaszczuk Government will host a free sports expo as part of the 2016 Heritage Toowoomba Royal Show with the aim of inspiring more locals to get outside and get active.

Treasurer and Minister for Sport Curtis Pitt said the Palaszczuk Government was proud to support this worthwhile event with more than $7,000 funding.

“The sports expo will promote the importance of an active, healthy lifestyle and increase awareness of the many sports and recreational activities available in the Toowoomba region,” Mr Pitt said.

“I encourage locals to come along and take part, there’s an impressive range of fun and free activities planned to entertain the whole family.

“You can get great ideas to embark on an outdoor adventure with some great nature-based activities or visit the Pop up Playground for some old favourites like stilt walking, sled rollers, sack races, balance beam and Frisbee.

“You can also find out more about some great initiatives helping kids and families in Toowoomba to get outdoors and get active.

“Why not visit the Queensland Recreation Centre kiosk to find out more about the outdoor adventures opportunities around Queensland, like the Recreation Centres on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coasts?

“The expo will also showcase Nature Play Queensland’s Passport to an Amazing Childhood initiative which is helping kids and families to reconnect with nature through unstructured outdoor play.

The 2016 Heritage Toowoomba Royal Show will take place at the Toowoomba Show Grounds from 7 to 9 April.

Other popular attractions at the expo include a driving simulator, an inflatable soccer pitch, inflatable archery range, karate, croquet, rugby league, and a rock-climbing wall.
