Minister for Disability Services, Minister for Seniors and Minister Assisting the Premier on North Queensland
    The Honourable Coralee O'Rourke

    Thursday, March 03, 2016

Statement by Disability Services Minister Coralee O'Rourke:

The Palaszczuk Government remains 100 per cent committed to the scheduled rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in Queensland.

Queensland is ready to sign the Bilateral Agreement and it is my number one priority.

Unfortunately, Malcolm Turnbull and his Social Services Minister Christian Porter have dragged their feet every step of the way.

The Premier has signed and sent two Bilateral Agreements to the Prime Minister. Each time, the Federal Government rejected the agreements and shifted the goal posts.

We’ve been left with no choice but to sign a third agreement that leaves Queensland short-changed, but we will continue to negotiate to get a larger share of our funds.

The real reason Malcolm Turnbull won’t sign our agreement and provide Queensland with access to our funding is because he wants to prop up his budget bottom line with hundreds of millions of dollars from our Medicare levy funds.
