Townsville Grammar’s junior school expansion underway

Education Minister Kate Jones today turned the first sod to mark the start of construction on Stage Two of Townsville Grammar School’s North Shore junior campus.

The Minister also helped to officially open the school’s recently completed Early Education Centre.

Ms Jones said she applauded Townsville Grammar School (TGS) Board of Trustees for investing in education in the fast developing North Shore area.

“Both the Early Education Centre and the primary school facility will be a great boost for this growth corridor in Townsville’s northern beaches region,” she said.

“The Palaszczuk Government is proud to partner with Townsville Grammar School on this important new development which should be complete by the end of this year and ready for students in 2017."

Ms Jones said she was pleased to also witness the formal opening of the school’s new $2.6 million Early Education Centre.

“This state-of-the-art facility has two large learning spaces catering for both a pre-prep class and a kindergarten class,” she said.

“I congratulate the school and the school board for driving this development.”

Ms Jones said the State Government was committed to the principle that all Queensland children should have access to a quality, inclusive early childhood education program.

Head of the Townsville Grammar Junior School Noel Nethery said the new school facilities would add significantly to the services provided by TGS.

“Today’s ceremony marks an important milestone in the long history of Townsville Grammar,” Mr Nethery said.

“Firstly we acknowledge the opening of the EEC which has obviously proved popular with the families in this northern beaches area of Townsville. Secondly, we officially embark upon the next stage of Grammar’s growth – a second Junior School,” he said.

“This will mean that more families are able to easily access the benefits of a Grammar education and connect in to our history, going back to 1888, to create our future innovators and leaders.

“As a school we are inspired daily by the children we teach and we look forward to being able to inspire them to do great things as well.”
