Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services and Minister for Corrective Services
The Honourable Bill Byrne

This week, I have been informed by Police Commissioner Ian Stewart that an investigation into whether any criminal legislation may have been breached by me in relation to claimed firearms discharges at residential properties in Rockhampton during the 1990s has been finalised.

I am told that this matter has been subject to inquiries by senior officers of the Queensland Police Service and was subsequently referred to the Crime and Corruption Commissioner (CCC) for consideration.

Commissioner Stewart advised me that the CCC has no requirements of the QPS in this matter and further, that the CCC advised that they have no jurisdiction.

Therefore, I have been informed by Commissioner Stewart that the QPS is unable to identify any basis to commence any proceedings and considers this matter to be finalised.
