Acting Training and Skills Minister Stirling Hinchliffe is encouraging Queenslanders to start preparing their nominations for the 2017 Queensland Training Awards, which open on Sunday, January 1.

“The awards are the highest accolade within the state’s training sector,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“They enter their 56th year in 2017 and their longevity reflects their importance in recognising those who strive for success, best practice and innovation in training.

“The Palaszczuk Government is focused on growing a strong vocational education and training (VET) sector to help job seekers access the training they need and the awards are an important part of this commitment.

“The Queensland Training Awards offer a unique chance for individuals to be recognised for their efforts and share their success with their peers while opening doors to more career opportunities.”

The Palaszczuk Government is also encouraging employers, training and community-based organisations to get involved and nominate.

“The awards provide organisations with the chance to build on their reputation for providing training excellence and be recognised as an organisation of choice,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“As well as being a great networking opportunity, the awards are an ideal way for employers to boost staff morale by rewarding hardworking apprentices, trainees and VET students.”

There are 14 award categories available in 2017, including two new categories – the Equity VET Student of the Year and the Community Training Initiative of the Year.

“I’m urging all eligible apprentices, trainees, VET students, teachers and trainers, employers, training providers and community-based organisations to take part in the 2017 Queensland Training Awards,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“Some category winners will have the chance to achieve success on the national stage by taking part in the Australian Training Awards in November next year.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to ensuring all Queenslanders acquire the skills needed to contribute to the state’s economic prosperity.

“That’s why the government has injected $240 million into the Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative, to make a real difference to job seekers and support regional communities.”

Nominations for the 2017 awards open on 1 January and close on 31 March.

The Queensland Training Awards are run by the Department of Education and Training.
