The first Borobi koala soft toy souvenirs of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) have been unveiled for the launch of the GC2018 Official Online Shop at: shop.gc2018.com

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Borobi, the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games’ official mascot, plush soft toys would headline the initial merchandise range of 60 items now available from the online shop.

“From soft toys to backpacks and caps, there are now plenty of options for securing your own Borobi and sharing in the excitement that’s building behind the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast,” Premier Palaszczuk said.

“Also joining Borobi in the online shop is a range of new GC2018-branded products including outback leather hats made by Burleigh-based Jacuru Australia, t-shirts, polos, hoodies, commemorative pins and keyrings.

“The GC2018 Official Online Shop is an important part of promoting Queensland and the Commonwealth Games to the world, and will stock more than 500 promotional items in the lead-up to the Games.”

Premier Palaszczuk, Commonwealth Games and Transport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe, joined with GC2018 Ambassador Laura Geitz and GOLDOC CEO Mark Peters, to reveal the Commonwealth Game’s first Borobi plush toy range at Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Children's Hospital.

Minister Hinchliffe said the online shop would complement GC2018’s plans for dedicated stores at Broadbeach, Surfers Paradise and in major Australian airports.

“From today, GC2018 merchandise will also be available from Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary with the rollout of retail stores in airports expected by mid-2017,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“I am pleased to announce the sale of Borobi plush toys at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary will deliver a lasting Commonwealth Games legacy.

“Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation to support koala rescue and conservation.”

Laura Geitz, in her first official duty as a GC2018 ambassador, assisted the Premier and Minister to present Borobi soft toys to young patients at Lady Cilento Children's Hospital.

“The smiles on the faces of patients said it all. It’s obvious Borobi will be a hit with Game’s fans of all ages around the world,” she said.

“I’m very excited about joining the GC2018 team as an ambassador and helping to share in the excitement of this global event.”

GOLDOC master licensee MATEVENTS has appointed a range of sub licensees to produce the GC2018 merchandise range, with more than 50 per cent of companies based in South East Queensland.
