Funding for accelerated maintenance and sealing works worth $787,000 has been allocated to Lamington National Park Road, about five kilometres from Canungra.

Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey said this was a win for local residents who had been advocating for these works and the many tourists who used this road each year.

“I am pleased to announce we have been able to bring forward these essential maintenance works, which are expected to start in the first quarter of 2017, weather permitting,” Mr Bailey said.

“Shoulder and pavement strengthening, and sealing will be undertaken over this two-kilometre section to provide two sealed traffic lanes similar to the others nearby.

“It’s estimated this work will be undertaken over two months with short delays during the construction.

“In the meantime, regular inspections of the road will be undertaken and maintenance works will be carried out as required.

“We are committed to keeping tourist drives safe and efficient for all road users.”
