Premier and Minister for the Arts
The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to welcome Your Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands to Queensland in Brisbane today.

“Queenslanders greatly value our special kinship with the people of the Netherlands,” the Premier said.

“Some 15,000 Queenslanders were born in the Netherlands, and almost 70,000 of us boast Dutch heritage.”

The King and Queen were joined by a 90-strong trade delegation, here to explore opportunities for further engagement with Queensland.

“Our two nations have a long history of dealing with natural disasters and we can learn a lot from one another, which has been the aim of the summit hosted by the Queensland University of Technology.”

QUT has built a successful partnership with water management professionals in the Netherlands, an alliance forged after our devastating floods of 2011.
