Extra funds to keep Queensland victims of domestic and family violence safe

The Palaszczuk Government is investing an extra $10.5 million to protect and support Queensland victims of domestic and family violence.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said services right across the state will benefit from the investment in local initiatives designed to tackle domestic and family violence and support victims.

“We are committed to tackling domestic and family violence right across Queensland,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“Domestic and family violence doesn’t discriminate.

“That’s why it is critical the Palaszczuk Government continues to invest in programs dedicated to supporting victims, driving behaviour change among perpetrators and strengthening our police and justice response.”

Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence Shannon Fentiman said domestic and family violence has no place in Queensland.

“A day does not go by in Queensland where we are not touched by the tragedy and devastation of domestic violence,” she said.

“This vital investment will help us to support victims of violence and boost the capability of local organisations to provide vital services that will both help us to drive much-needed cultural change and keep Queenslanders safe.

“We know 80 per cent of domestic and family violence is witnessed by or committed against children. This vital new investment will both support victims and their children.”

Organisations receiving funding include:

-       Domestic Violence Action Centre at Somerset will receive $2.173 million to deliver counselling and support;

-       Uniting Care Community at Ipswich will receive $1.045 million to deliver the Men’s Stopping Violence Program;

-       The Corporation of the Trustees of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane will receive $27,500 to provide court support through the Beenleigh Domestic Violence Assistance Program;

-       YFS at Beaudesert will receive $1.667 million to deliver specialist counselling and support to women and children through the Beaudesert Domestic and Family Violence Service;

-       Micah Projects will receive $504,489 to deliver court-based services and perpetrator programs through the Brisbane Domestic Violence Service;

-       Caboolture Regional Domestic Violence Service will receive $1.276 million to provide specialist counselling and support to victims of domestic violence;

-       Uniting Care Community at Moreton Bay will receive $2.475 million over five years to deliver nine group perpetrator programs each year to help men change abusive behaviour;

-       Domestic Violence Resource Service at Mackay will receive $178,750 to deliver specialist counselling and support to victims of violence;

-       Uniting Care Community will receive $1.1 million over five years to deliver four group perpetrator programs each year to help men change their abusive behaviour;

-       The Coalition on Criminal Assault in the Home will receive $33,000 to deliver support domestic and family violence service delivery on Palm Island under the North Queensland Domestic Violence Sector Development program.

This announcement builds on the Palaszczuk Government’s record almost $200 million domestic and family violence investment announced in the State Budget.
