His Excellency, the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland, has hosted an Executive Council meeting in Townsville during the Premier’s week governing in the North.

Executive Council meetings are chaired by the Governor, and involve a minimum of two Cabinet Ministers presenting advice to the Governor, whose sign-off provides legal effect to decisions of Cabinet.

Ministers Coralee O’Rourke and Grace Grace were the Executive Council members in attendance yesterday.

“I’d like to thank the Governor for chairing Executive Council in Townsville this week,” the Premier said.

“When I said I would be governing from the North for a week, the Governor was extremely eager to ensure the weekly Executive Council meeting was also held in Townsville.

“Following the Executive Council meeting, the Governor and I had the opportunity to discuss issues of importance to Townsville and North Queensland.

"His Excellency also held a briefing with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.

“It is the ninth time the Governor has been to Townsville since His Excellency was sworn in, and I understand he has also been to Cairns eight times. He truly is a tireless advocate for regional Queensland.

“North Queenslanders can be assured that their Government and their Governor are intently focused on working with the local community to create a stronger, more prosperous and more inclusive community.”
