Statement from the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice

I have instructed the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to appeal against a sentence handed down in the District Court at Ipswich on 6 September 2016.

The Court convicted Thomas Adrian Noble of 15 counts of serious animal cruelty.

On each count, the Court imposed a 3 year sentence, wholly suspended for a period of 3 years.

The appeal is on the grounds that the decision to suspend the sentence was manifestly inadequate.
