Magic Millions sizzles ahead of Australia’s richest race day

Thousands of racegoers are expected to pour through the gates at the Gold Coast Turf Club on Saturday for the Magic Millions, Australia’s richest day of horseracing.

Racing Minister Grace Grace said the 2016 Magic Millions was already off to a flying start, with yearling sales up on last year.

“Yearling sales are up compared to 2015, along with average and median prices,” she said.

“Owners and trainers know that the Magic Millions is the best place in Australia to buy a yearling, and they’re opening their wallets in 2016.

“The Magic Millions has a history of producing champions on the track and in the breeding barn and this year will be no different.”

The Magic Millions action shifts to the track on Saturday, with $10 million in prizemoney up for grabs on a nine-race card.

“I’ll be on course on Saturday with Major Events Minister Kate Jones to see all the action of the Magic Millions,” Ms Grace said.

“This is one of Queensland’s premier major events, bringing extra visitors, investment and spending to the Gold Coast.

“It pumps an estimated extra $20 million into the local economy.

“Breeders, owners and trainers are unanimous in their verdict that this is world’s leading combined thoroughbred sale and racing event.

“If the Magic Millions doesn’t get your heart racing, nothing will.”
