Queensland confidence continues to out-perform Australia

Queensland has defied a nation-wide drop in the latest National Australia Bank’s Monthly Business Survey to again lead the country in terms of business confidence.

Treasurer Curtis Pitt said it was the sixth consecutive month that Queensland had out-performed the rest of the nation.

“Queensland remained at +10 stayed steady through December which puts us six points ahead of both New South Wales and Victoria,” Mr Pitt said.

“Our innovative and consultative approach to economic policy has given businesses the opportunities and confidence they need to hire new people, invest in their business and help our state’s economy.

“That’s how we’ve brought down unemployment growth in Queensland from 6.5 per cent under the LNP to a two-year low of 5.9 per cent and create 60,400 jobs since the election.

“That’s 11 straight months of job creation in Queensland according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

“It’s a fantastic result for the State, which shows the positive impact the Palaszczuk Government’s pro-business, pro-jobs economic plan is having at getting the State moving.

“Our economic plan is working and our economy is again heading in the right direction.”

Mr Pitt said the Palaszczuk Government understands the importance of a diverse economy, public consultation and sensible policy to drive the state forward.

“That’s why we’ve kept our election promise of not introducing new fees, taxes or charges,” Mr Pitt said.

“We delivered on our payroll tax rebate scheme which has seen almost 2,000 Queensland businesses claim more than $3.8 million in rebates right around the state in just the last six months.

“Our policies and our track record send a very clear message to businesses around Australia that there’s no better time to invest in Queensland.”
