AMENDED: Premier calls Townsville meeting for Cabinet Jobs Committee

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will convene a meeting of her Government’s Working Queensland Cabinet Committee in Townsville tomorrow.

The Premier said senior Ministers and Directors-General will meet to discuss progress on the Accelerated Works Program (AWP) for the North and the rest of the State launched on Sunday.

“In addition to the $61M package of AWP projects in Townsville and Cairns regions announced on Sunday, the Committee will discuss establishing a priority list of projects for the North and give them the ‘green light’,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“The Committee was formed last year to ensure my Government maintained a laser focus on jobs.

“The creation of more than 60,000 new jobs since the election is a start, but we will do more to drive and secure jobs for Queenslanders.

“The sooner we get projects going the sooner we get the jobs.  I want the jobs.”

Ministers attending the Cabinet Committee meeting include Deputy Premier Jackie Trad, State Development Minister Dr Anthony Lynham, Main Roads and Ports Minister Mark Bailey, Training and Skills Minister Yvette D’Ath, Employment Minister Grace Grace and Minister assisting the Premier in North Queensland, Coralee O’Rourke.

The Working Queensland Cabinet Committee is charged with co-ordinating and overseeing employment-related policy and programs.

Ms Palaszczuk arrives in Townsville this afternoon and will immediately meet with Mayor Jenny Hill.

*Please note: Dr Lynham will also attend the Cabinet Committee meeting.
