Queensland continues to lead Australia on business confidence

Queensland business confidence is the highest of all the mainland States for the second month in a row, according to the NAB Monthly Business Survey for August.

Treasurer Curtis Pitt, who is meeting with international investors in London, said the NAB survey released today also showed improving business conditions in Queensland.

“Today’s survey is another sign business is getting behind the Palaszczuk’s Government’s positive economic agenda,” he said.

“Queensland now has the highest business confidence level of the mainland states at +7 points, one more than NSW.

“And the trend business conditions index in Queensland rose by 2 points to +2 points.

“These results maintain the momentum from a very positive and pro-business State Budget.

“NAB states the improvement in conditions provides further evidence the anticipated recovery in the non-mining economy is gaining momentum.

“The August survey follows the latest NAB quarterly survey results, which showed seasonally adjusted business confidence in Queensland rose from +4 points in December quarter 2014 to +8 points in June quarter 2015.”

Mr Pitt said the Palaszczuk Government would continue to work with business and industry to promote jobs, growth and investment.

“Queensland has added 20,400 extra jobs since the Palaszczuk Government took office in February,” he said.

“Our $1.6 billion Working Queensland plan contained important measures to restore business confidence, such as the 25 per cent payroll tax rebate for apprentices and trainees.

“We have put in place a Red Tape Reduction Advisory Council and a new home-based business program to support stay-at-home parents develop new businesses.

 “We’re pro-growth and pro-jobs and that is showing through with the continued high levels of business confidence.”
