Boundary Road Interchange upgrade a step closer

Expressions of interest are now open for the $105 million upgrade of the Boundary Road Interchange near Narangba.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss said prequalified construction companies could now register their interest in the project, which will focus on construction of a new six-lane bridge over the highway.

“The upgrade will boost the interchange’s capacity and enhance safety for motorists who use this section of the highway. As an added bonus, pedestrians and cyclists will have improved access,” Mr Truss said.

Minister for Main Roads and Road Safety Mark Bailey, said the second stage of the tender process enables any shortlisted contractors to tender for a Transport Infrastructure Contract – Construction Only (TIC-CO) contract to undertake the major works.

“The upgrade will see a new six-lane, four-span concrete bridge built over the Bruce Highway including a shared pedestrian and cycle crossing, as well as new signalised intersections at the new exit and entry ramps,” Mr Bailey said.

“It is anticipated the successful tenderer will be announced early next year, with construction to start by mid-2016.”

Member for Murrumba Chris Whiting said the tender for the major upgrade will be a two-stage approach which aims to deliver value for money.

“Improving the capacity of the interchange will improve traffic flow, efficiency and safety for both commercial and private vehicles,” Mr Whiting said.

“The Palaszczuk Government is working hard to get this project happening. The local economy will welcome a boost with more construction jobs created and help small businesses.”

Member for Kallangur Shane King, said the interchange upgrade was vital as volume increases on the Bruce Highway.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to improving the safety of Queensland’s vast road network, creating jobs and building much needed infrastructure,” Mr King said.

“With construction expected to start by mid-2016, I’m excited to see progress on this crucial project.” 

The $105 million Bruce Highway-Boundary Road Interchange Upgrade project is jointly funded with the Australian Government committing up to $84 million and the Queensland Government contributing $21 million.
