Ergon Energy Retail has launched an online tool in Townsville today to put power in the hands of business customers and deliver energy savings across regional Queensland.

Minister Assisting the Premier on North Queensland Coralee O’Rourke said Ergon Energy Retail developed EnergyCheck to help local businesses track their energy use.

“We want to make things easier for businesses to thrive in North Queensland, because we know what a vital role they play to the state’s economy,” Mrs O’Rourke said.

“EnergyCheck is a free online tool that allows business customers to review and manage their energy consumption,” she said.

“It provides registered customers with personalised reports based on their billing cycle, which help them understand how to cut down their energy consumption.

“EnergyCheck also has a tariff comparison to help customers understand what impacts their energy use and recommend the best value tariff for their business.

“It enables businesses to benchmark their energy use against other similar businesses in their region using anonymous data.”

Ian Richardson from Tippett Schrock Architects in Townsville said the EnergyCheck tool gave him an insight of energy costs compared to other similar businesses and suggestions on how to improve efficiency and operating costs.

“We could look at the efficiency suggestions with an indication of the potential reduction in operating costs and determine where we could adopt strategies that would best suit our activity,” Mr Richardson said.

“EnergyCheck gives us a straightforward high level, easy to navigate tool to monitor our energy costs. For example, as a company with office based activity we could see that lighting and air-conditioning were our largest energy users and could adopt simple strategies to ensure we use them efficiently.”

EnergyCheck customers can access resources with simple ways to save energy and money. This includes checking thermostats are working properly, reducing night time energy waste and planning for maintenance on refrigerators and lighting.

Business customers can register for EnergyCheck at ergonenergy.com.au/energycheck
