The Palaszczuk Government has announced its support for a landmark project aimed at improving health, well-being and opportunities for children in Logan City.

Logan Together is a partnership between community services organisations and government to provide a long-term solution to the issues facing Logan families to improve the health and wellbeing of children aged up to eight years.

Minister for Communities and Member for Waterford Shannon Fentiman said the State Government was pleased to support the initiative.

“Creating the best health, educational and developmental opportunities for our children and young people is vital for Logan,” Ms Fentiman said.

“We know that there are areas in our community where families need some help and that’s why this project is so important.

“When we raise healthy, happy and smart young people, they contribute to the future success of Logan.

“We know that the early years are vital in giving kids the best start in life and the Government has a range of ways we work with families to help this happen. Logan Together will build on this work and be a model new approach."

The State Government will invest $510,000 in Logan Together, which is also supported by almost 40 government and non-government agencies and service providers in Logan City.

Logan Together is a 10 year campaign with a collaborative approach to early childhood development that aims to close the gap so that, by the age of eight, Logan children will be as healthy as any other Australian children and reach agreed health, education and social milestones.

It will be a sustained, coordinated program involving schools, health services, community organisations, social assistance agencies, businesses, sports clubs, church groups and most importantly parents and kids themselves.

The new State of Logan’s Children and Young People report highlights a wide range of child wellbeing measures that need to be better if all Logan’s children are to grow to reach their potential.

Ultimately, Logan Together will deliver a detailed child development ‘roadmap’ and establish long-term systems improvements that will lead to better support for children and their families in Logan.

The State Government is also providing $50,000 to the Logan Community Group Alliance, with Logan Together contributing a further $25,000 to the Alliance, for a project to encourage local leadership and drive change in the community.

The Logan Community Group Alliance is made up of a number of churches, charities, unions, community organisations and ethnic associations in Logan.
