The Queensland Government’s Get in the Game initiative is in the midst of a funding surge with Get Started Vouchers close to wrapping up and Get Going Clubs and Get Playing Places and Spaces opening for applications today.

Sport and Racing Minister Bill Byrne said close to 10,000 Get Started Vouchers had been snapped up by Queenslanders in the first two weeks.

“On the back of the success of Get Started Vouchers, I encourage Queensland sport and recreation clubs to apply for Get Going Clubs and Get Playing Places and Spaces funding with round four of both programs opening yesterday,” Minister Byrne said.

“Through these programs, hundreds of clubs throughout the state have received funding for club capacity projects to improve their facilities, buy equipment and support their members.

“Over the next three years, we’ll see $10.5 million going towards the Get Going Clubs program and $33 million going towards the Get Playing Places and Spaces program.

“We’ve seen some great results and success stories through previous rounds of these programs; it’s terrific to see sport and recreation clubs taking advantage of this funding for the benefit of Queensland communities,” he said.

Get Going Clubs provides funding of up to $7500 for to help clubs provide participation opportunities in the community.

Get Playing Places and Spaces provides funding of up to $100,000 for developing new or upgraded sport and recreation infrastructure.

Minister Byrne said the Get in the Game initiative recently received a big budget funding boost with more than $80 million allocated for the next three years.

“We’re proud to be able to provide even more opportunities for Queenslanders to participate in sport and active recreation at the grassroots level—to get more people outdoors, staying active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” Minister Byrne said.
