The Honourable Yvette D'Ath

Training and Skills Minister Yvette D’Ath has congratulated the 63 state finalists of the 2015 Queensland Training Awards who head to Brisbane next month to compete in the state finals.

Mrs D’Ath said the 63 state finalists – including two who will compete in two categories – could be proud of their achievements and she looked forward to meeting them at the Queensland Training Awards State Final Presentation Dinner on September 11.

“To reach the level of a state finalist in the Queensland Training Awards is a significant achievement,” Mrs D’Ath said.

“These apprentices, trainees, students, teachers and trainers, training organisations and employers have been recognised for their commitment, excellence, and their contributions to the state’s training sector.

“I wish them all the best as they compete to be named best in Queensland.

“I encourage family and friends to join us at the state final presentation dinner, which will be held at the Royal International Convention Centre at the RNA Showgrounds.”

Mrs D’Ath said the regional state finalists had been announced over the past few weeks, with details available at www.qta.qld.gov.au/winners

State finalists have also been announced this week in three further categories:

Premier’s Industry Collaboration Award:

  • Cairns Aviation Skills Centre and a 10-year partnership between its board of industry representatives and Aviation Australia
  • Project Booyah — a police-run, whole-of-government initiative delivering real change for young people at risk in Queensland
  • West Moreton Hospital and Health Service and the Health Pathways Alliance — creating healthy futures.

Small Training Provider of the Year:

  • Charlton Brown
  • Club Training Australia
  • St Columban’s College.

Large Training Provider of the Year:

  • Blue Dog Training
  • Careers Australia
  • TAFE Queensland.

Mrs D’Ath said the Queensland Training Awards highlighted and rewarded excellence in the state’s training sector.

“The State Government is committed to supporting training and skills development for all Queenslanders,” Mrs D’Ath said.

“Jobs are our number one priority so it’s vital that we give people access to the training they need to find real opportunities.

“This is particularly important in our regional communities, where programs like our $240 million Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative will make a real difference to jobseekers.”

The Queensland Training Awards are run by the Department of Education and Training. For further information, including tickets to the presentation dinner, visit www.qta.qld.gov.au.
