Queensland business confidence highest of all mainland States

Queensland business confidence is now the highest of all the mainland States, according to the NAB Monthly Business Survey for July.

Treasurer Curtis Pitt welcomed the findings of the survey, released today.

“Business confidence in Queensland (trend) rose by 1 point to +9 points,” he said.

“This was the highest confidence level of the mainland states and another sign that business is getting behind our positive economic agenda.

“It follows last month’s Westpac Group CCIQ Survey of Business Conditions for the June Quarter, which also shows rising business confidence.

“According to the CCIQ, business sentiment in Queensland has improved on the back of a balanced State Budget and improving business conditions.

“Along with last month’s fall in the trend unemployment rate from 6.4 per cent to 6.3 per cent, these are clear signs of economic uplift in Queensland.

“Merchandise exports are also on the rise and our LNG producers are earning the State valuable export dollars.”

According to the NAB survey, the national three month moving average for business confidence shows that the transport, retail, finance, business and property sectors are all becoming more confident.

Mr Pitt said the Palaszczuk Government would continue to work with business and industry to promote jobs, growth and investment.

“Queensland has added 20,400 extra jobs since the Palaszczuk Government took office,” he said.

“Our $180 million Advance Queensland initiative is about encouraging innovation and the knowledge-based jobs for the future.

“We’re pro-growth and pro-jobs and I want to send out that message to business loud and clear.”
