The search is on to the find a creative lead to develop the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Arts and Culture Program.

Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones today said the Queensland Government is seeking expressions of interest for a creative lead who will oversee the Games’ Arts and Culture Program to showcase the best of Gold Coast and Queensland culture and lifestyle on a global stage.

“We are looking for creative visionaries who are ready to engage with communities and artists across the state to help celebrate the spirit of the Commonwealth Games through arts and culture,” Ms Jones said.

“The program also presents an opportunity to foster and support Queensland’s creative sector and engage with home-grown artists.

“The creative lead will oversee cultural activities including concerts and other public festivities that happen alongside the Games on the Gold Coast and at live sites around Queensland.

“Creative visionaries from the Gold Coast and across the country are encouraged to apply for this exciting role.

“There will also be opportunities to commission artists to create works including public art or cultural events to mark Games’ milestones and celebrate key events.

“The program will also feature a number of projects across the State to engage with diverse Queensland communities and ensure the lasting positive impact of the Games well beyond the competition and the Gold Coast,” Minister Jones said.

City of Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said the Arts and Cultural Program would help capture the authentic spirit of the Gold Coast and reflect our distinctive lifestyle, culture and creativity.

“We want this program to help create a celebratory atmosphere and sense of excitement around the Games,” Mayor Tate said.

“It also presents an opportunity to engage people from around the world in the Gold Coast’s arts and culture and showcase the best of our active, healthy lifestyle.”

The Arts and Cultural Program will complement other Games highlights such as the Opening and Closing ceremonies.

The Expression of Interest will remain open for four weeks.
