Gulf of Carpentaria boaties will have an easier time launching from the Karumba boat ramp.

Ports Minister Mark Bailey said water access had been improved at Gilbert Street.

“During the past year, more than $1 million has been invested at Karumba,” he said.

“The boat ramp has been widened to increase capacity and a floating walkway has been installed.”

Carpentaria Mayor Fred Pascoe said the council had received plenty of positive feedback about the upgraded boat ramp, pontoon and car park.

“The increase to the number of lanes improves access to the water and reduces queue times,” Cr Pascoe said.

“The heavier capacity ramp will accommodate commercial fishermen and allow them to get on the water without delay, while the addition of extra lanes means there is plenty of room for the large number of recreational boaties that flood into our region at this time of year.”
