Education Minister Kate Jones today announced two Gold Coast winners of the South East Queensland regional 2015 Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools.

Ms Jones said Pacific Pines State School won the Network Ten Showcase Award for Excellence in the Early and Primary Years for their Unlocking the power of potential @ Pacific Pines Primary program and Benowa State High School, Merrimac State High School and Helensvale State High School for their joint Find x, where x = maths and science teachers program.

“I congratulate all schools for their significant contribution to education in our local community,” she said.

“The local regional selection team said the schools deserved recognition for improving student outcomes through a sustainable and inclusive approach which could be used in other schools.

“These awards provide another important opportunity to share best practice as we celebrate the outstanding quality of Queensland’s state schools.”

Thirty-two regional winners were selected out of a total of 112 entries from across the state for this year’s Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools, which celebrates its 16th year in 2015.

Ms Jones said each regional winner would receive a $1,000 development grant to further enhance efforts to improve student learning outcomes.

“They will now compete for a place as a state finalist, with six statewide winners to be announced at the Showcase Awards Gala Dinner in Brisbane on Friday 30 October 2015,” she said.

The Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools are supported by major sponsors Network Ten, Teachers Health Fund, QSuper, Village Roadshow Theme Parks, RemServ, Queensland University of Technology and supporting partner QT Mutual Bank.
