Palaszczuk Government’s North Queensland office open for business

North Queensland again has a dedicated Queensland Government office after Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk today opened the North Queensland office of the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

The Premier said the opening of the office was a significant day for North Queensland and gives the region the attention it deserves after the office was closed by the previous LNP Government.

“The opening of the Townsville office today shows our commitment to building the North Queensland region and the importance to North Queensland to the state economy,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“North Queensland has huge economic potential and we’re already working with local business and industry to find economic opportunities to create jobs and grow the local economy.

“We want to further develop the established industries of tourism, mining and agriculture, but also look for new growth opportunities in science, research and innovation.

“There is already some great work being done in tropical sciences, marine business, defence and aviation.

“We want to develop economic opportunities all across North Queensland from the tip of Cape York, south to Mackay and west to Mount Isa.”

The North Queensland office will be led by the Honourable Coralee O’Rourke, Minister Assisting the Premier on North Queensland.

Ms O’Rourke said she was passionate about creating jobs and building stronger communities in North Queensland.

“I live in this region, I love the area and I am proud to represent it,” she said.

“Having an office located here in Townsville means members of the North Queensland community, business leaders and other key stakeholders will have a central location to speak with the Palaszczuk Government.

“It will also be home to three dedicated staff including an administration assistant, a policy advisor with a focus on economic and business development needs of the region and a manager.

“These are people who can help ensure that myself and the Premier are getting the strong local advice we need to ensure the region prospers.”
