Work is underway to enhance safety on the Gold Coast Highway at Palm Beach.

Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey said the $445,000 project would make the southern section of the highway safer for motorists and pedestrians.

"Additional median lighting is being installed from south of the Thrower Drive intersection at the Palm Beach Parklands to Currumbin Creek bridge,” he said.

This work is expected to take about two months to complete, depending on rainfall.

“Thank you to motorists in advance for being patient with the roadworks,” Mr Bailey said.

It follows the completion in May of a 240-metre median pedestrian fence, north of the intersection of Thrower Drive near Palm Beach Parklands.
