The Honourable Jo-Ann Miller

Corrective Services Minister Jo-Ann Miller has welcomed 15 new Probation and Parole Case Managers to Queensland Corrective Services following a graduation ceremony today.

Minister Miller said she was inspired by the graduates’ desire to help rehabilitate people on community supervision.

“The officers come from all over the State and bring their own life experiences and knowledge to the training. Their first priority for new graduates is to ensure community safety through effective supervision,” Minister Miller said.

“They have a strong desire to play a part in the rehabilitation of prisoners and people subject to community supervision. They’ve also shown they have an enormous capacity to help change the negative behaviours of prisoners and those under supervision.”

Since the start of the program, the Queensland Corrective Services Academy has seen between 80 and 100 probation and parole staff trained each year in the areas of offender management, court prosecution, conflict management and mental health.

This is the second course for 2015.

“The final phase of training is the completion of work-based assessment activities during a six-month period,” Minister Miller said.

“Upon successful completion of their training and assessments, they are awarded a national accredited Certificate IV in Correctional Practice.”

Staff graduating today will be based in locations all across Queensland including, Roma, Bundaberg, Townsville, Emerald, Cairns, Gladstone, and South East Queensland.
