Queensland’s best instrumental music students have gathered from across the state to prepare for next month’s MOST gala concert.

Education Minister Kate Jones said 78 instrumental music students from 29 state secondary schools across Queensland would spend the next 10 days rehearsing at an intensive residential program in Brisbane.

“These musically gifted and talented students represent some of the best musicians produced by Queensland’s state school instrumental music program,” Ms Jones said.

“They will spend the residential program extending their performance skills and musical repertoires as they rehearse for the Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Instrumental Music (MOST) gala concert on 1 July.

“Tickets for the gala concert are now on sale and I encourage Queenslanders to book quickly so they don’t miss out.

“It’s a great opportunity to see our talented young musicians perform and to hear the results of their hard work.”

Ms Jones said the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University had come on board as a MOST partner in 2015.

“For the first time, the MOST gala concert will be held at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University Conservatorium Theatre this year,” she said.

“Our MOST students will spend their residential program working with conductors, tutors and teachers who are affiliated with the university, as well as having the opportunity to perform in the Conservatorium Theatre.

“We hope this is the beginning of a long and fruitful partnership between MOST and the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.”

Ms Jones said the instrumental music program in Queensland state schools was as strong as ever.

“We lead the country in school music education and can be justifiably proud of our extensive program,” she said.

“I look forward to hearing our talented MOST students performing a range of classics including Rossini’s William Tell Overture and Australian Peter Sculthorpe’s Lament for Strings.

“I encourage Queenslanders to join me at the MOST gala concert to support this important program.”
