Queenslanders can see the progress being made towards the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games on the latest update of Ahead of the Games.

Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones said the interactive online report, Ahead of the Games, provided the latest on Games progress, programs and budget.

“The website is a one-stop-shop for anyone seeking information on the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games,” Ms Jones said.

Ahead of the Games provides information about venues, transport, financial data, procurement, business opportunities and Embracing 2018, the official legacy program for the Games.

“Queenslanders can view the wide-ranging content and be confident delivery of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games is on track and on budget.”

Ms Jones said Ahead of the Games would be updated twice a year in the lead-up to the Games to give Queenslanders access to the most accurate and timely information about preparations for the event.

“It’s also a great educational tool for students seeking information about the Commonwealth and the Games,” she said.

Ms Jones said the Commonwealth Games would support at least 30,000 jobs and deliver a $2 billion injection into the Queensland economy.

“Event planning is now moving to a more detailed level, Games organising committee GOLDOC has grown to more than 100 employees and significant procurement is underway providing many opportunities for business,” she said.

“The $320 million Games infrastructure program is forging ahead with construction underway at three new GC2018 venues, early works started on the Games Village and all venues scheduled for completion 12 months ahead of the opening ceremony.”
