Some of Australia’s best renewable energy minds are meeting with Energy Minister Mark Bailey on ways to expand the industry and open up investment opportunities and jobs for Queenslanders.

The Renewable Energy Forum, hosted by the Palaszczuk Government, is drawing on the intellectual and policy firepower of more than 50 experts in renewable energy to boost the state’s clean energy sector.

“We are setting a clear and positive vision for the future of Queensland’s renewable energy industry with an aspirational target of having one million rooftops by 2020, and achieving 50 per cent renewable energy by 2030.

“It is vital that we put the right policy settings in place to grow Queensland’s renewable energy sector.

“Today’s forum is a great opportunity to bring together leaders across Australia’s renewable energy sector, including representatives from peak bodies in clean energy, the energy supply sector and academics at the cutting-edge of renewable energy technology.”

The Palaszczuk Government remains committed to delivering key renewable energy objectives of increased investment, more jobs, environmental protection and downward pressure on electricity prices.

Mr Bailey said Queensland has one of the highest penetrations of rooftop solar panels in the world.

“Already there are more than 1.3 gigawatts of solar panels installed across more than 400,000 rooftops – that’s one in every four detached homes. It’s the highest rate in Australia,” he said.

“This growth shows no signs of stopping, with Queensland forecast to have the strongest solar growth in the national energy market in the coming years.

“By increasing our solar update and encouraging more investment in renewable energy, we’re helping to protect Queensland’s environment for future generations.”
