Premier and Minister for the Arts
The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk today launched the 2016 Queensland Week Sponsorship Program, encouraging community groups and organisations to participate in celebrating our state’s birthday.

“Each year, right across the state, Queenslanders mark this annual celebration of our people, places and achievements with a barbeque, family fun day, festival, street parade or a something unique to their community,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“The Queensland Week Sponsorship Program encourages everyone to celebrate in a way that reflects their culture, heritage and aspirations.

“I am very excited to announce applications are now open for the 2016 Queensland Week Sponsorship Program.

“Sponsorship funding of up to $10 000 is available for events held to celebrate Queensland Week next year between June 4 and 12 June.

“This year, the Queensland Government provided funding towards 16 diverse events across the state, attended by more than 18 000 people, as part of the 2015 Queensland Week celebrations,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“These events were held in Ayr, Yeppoon, Glenview, Dysart, Croydon, Innisfail, Hervey Bay, Gold Coast, Woodridge, Laidley, Normanton, Boulia, Richmond, Emerald, Crows Nest and Windorah.

“The Queensland Week events sponsored under the program included food festivals, youth and multicultural celebrations, a unique opportunity to ride on the historic Gulflander Train and a tour of the Stonehouse Museum.”
