Major upgrade for Brisbane Valley Highway

Traffic will flow more smoothly and safely when major works are completed on a busy section of the Brisbane Valley Highway, south of Geoff Fishers Bridge.

Minister for Main Roads and Road Safety Mark Bailey said the $1.65 million project will go a long way towards improving safety for motorists in the area.

“The upgrade will help ease congestion and enhance safety for the 3400 motorists who travel this route every day,” he said.

“Works are due to start on 17 May and involve improve the road surface of along a busy stretch of the highway, 500 metres south of Geoff Fishers Bridge, near Wivenhoe Pocket Road.

“A new asphalt road surface will be laid along this section of the road to make it smoother for motorists.

“Works will be carried out between 6am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, to minimise disruption for local residents.  

Motorists may experience some minor delays, however traffic controllers, reduced speed limits and signage will be in place.

“I thank motorists for their patience while these important safety works are being carried out.”

Mr Bailey said additional works were in the pipeline for the Brisbane Valley Highway with investigations and design underway to resurface a further 2km section of the road from Sandy Creek Bridge to the Old Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Crossing.
