Queensland tourism suffered under the LNP government a Queensland Audit Office report has found.

Tourism Minister Kate Jones said the Tourism Industry Growth and Development report released today found Queensland tourism was not on track to grow to $30 billion by 2020.

“The tourism industry in Queensland has suffered as a direct result of LNP cuts,” Ms Jones said.

“The previous government slashed funding for Tourism and Events Queensland, despite claiming tourism was one of their four pillars, and this report confirms their cuts have hurt tourism growth.

Ms Jones said the Palaszczuk Government was determined to work with industry to repair the damage done to Queensland tourism.

“During the election campaign we committed to boost funding for Tourism and Events Queensland by $40 million,” she said.

“We will also invest $100 million to protect the Great Barrier Reef to ensure it continues to attract tourists to the state.

“The Palaszczuk Government will also direct $10 million to the Attracting Aviation Investment Fund to draw new flights to Queensland.

“Today’s announcement that Jetstar will launch direct flights between the Gold Coast and Wuhan in China is confirmation the Palaszczuk Government is on track to grow tourism in this state.”
