Plans are set in motion to upgrade facilities at the popular Ocean Creek boat ramp in Burdekin, with construction to begin later this year.

Main Roads, Road Safety and Ports Minister Mark Bailey said the project demonstrated the government’s ongoing commitment to improving marine infrastructure across the state.

“The existing Ocean Creek ramp on Peggy Bog Road was built in 1970 and is well overdue for an upgrade,” Mr Bailey said.

“The upgraded ramp will be extended to two, four-metre-wide lanes. Planning and design works are well underway.”

Minister Assisting the Premier on North Queensland Coralee O’Rourke said the revamped boating facility would be a drawcard for tourists and locals who use the Ocean Creek ramp as the launch pad for fishing, boating and other recreational water pursuits.

“The works are expected to start towards the end of the year. There will be temporary closures while the ramp is being upgraded, however, there are alternative ramps nearby for boaties to use. I thank the local community and visitors in advance for their patience while these works are underway,” Mrs O’Rourke said.

“Works will progress as quickly as possible so boating and fishing enthusiasts can look forward to enjoying the new facilities by the end of the year.

Transport and Main Roads worked closely with Burdekin Shire Council and the Volunteer Marine Rescue group which regularly uses this ramp for rescue and assistance operations.
