The Honourable Dr Anthony Lynham

The southside could be about to gain a new suburb - Wishart Outlook.

Natural Resources and Mines Dr Anthony Lynham said submissions were being taken on a new suburb name for an area that was once part of the current Wishart.

“The area proposed to form the new suburb was originally in Wishart when the first suburban boundaries were set in 1975, but become part of Eight Miles Plains as a result of boundary changes in 2005,” Dr Lynham said.

“The residents within the area do not identify their community as part of the Eight Mile Plains suburb, and have suggested the change.”

The area proposed to become the new suburb is bounded by Bulimba Creek to the north, the Pacific Motorway to the south and the Gateway Motorway to the east.

The area is separated from the remainder of the Eight Mile Plains by major transport corridors and has no direct public transport to the Eight Mile Plains central business district.

Dr Lynham said the proposal would remove the current confusion around the delivery of essential and emergency services to the area.

“I encourage locals to take the opportunity to make a submission on the proposal until the submissions close on 29 July 2015.

“The submissions will form part of my decision making process,” he said.
