The Palaszczuk Government is to kick in another $1.5 million to redevelop Yeppoon’s over-worked foreshore into a modern beachside tourism precinct.

State Development Minister Dr Anthony Lynham announced the boost today, which will take the State Government’s injection into the foreshore to a total of $4 million.

Dr Lynham said the redevelopment would be a catalyst for further economic growth on the Capricorn Coast as it climbed back on its feet after Tropical Cyclone Marcia.

“We will be providing a total of $4 million to help transform the foreshore and realise its full potential for tourists and locals,” Dr Lynham said.

“The extra $1.5 million will help to build ground level car parks with associated pedestrian links.

“It will also go towards revamping the performance stage on Yeppoon Main Beach, which will facilitate major events and festivals in and around Yeppoon.

“We have listened to the Livingstone Shire Council and the local parliamentarians, Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga and the Member for Rockhampton Bill Byrne.

“They are telling us that this will be a real kickstarter for the local economy that took a battering from Tropical Cyclone Marcia in February.”

Ms Lauga welcomed the announcement, saying she shared council’s confidence that the foreshore redevelopment would be a shot in the arm for local business.

“The Capricorn Coast is a major tourist destination with a growing “sea change” population,” she said.

“The foreshore is struggling with the pressure and this upgrade will create a fresh new look and facilities that will generate significant private sector investment in associated tourist facilities and accommodation.

“Most importantly, this project will help create immediate jobs during construction and the potential for future ongoing employment opportunities."

The redevelopment is part of the Yeppoon CBD Master Plan and will deliver a new beachfront water play area, new roof and shading of the beach stage and amphitheatre terraces.
