The Honourable Coralee O'Rourke

Disability Services Minister Coralee O’Rourke today visited CPL (formerly the Cerebral Palsy League) in Rockhampton to see first-hand how the service is making a positive difference to the lives of local people with disability.

In Rockhampton for Community Cabinet, Mrs O’Rourke said the Palaszczuk Government was committed to supporting organisations like CPL, who provide much needed support and services to vulnerable Queenslanders.

“CPL received more than $3.8 million in funding this financial year to continue delivering home and respite support, therapy and health services, life skills programs and vacation care in Rockhampton.

“It was great to meet face-to-face with support workers on the ground and see state-of-the-art facilities like the sensory room benefiting people with disability in the region.”

CPL Chief Executive Officer Angela Tillmanns said the addition of a new sensory room was helping to make a real difference to the lives of people with disabilities in the Rockhampton area.

“Sensory rooms use light, sound and tactile equipment to heighten the senses of people who may have sensory disorders,” Ms Tillmanns said.

“The sensory room can also be used for relaxation to help people who are over-stimulated to become calm and give their body a rest.

“CPL’s new Rockhampton sensory room features interactive light boards and bubble tanks as well as glow in the dark toys, vibrating chairs and fibre optics curtains to engage and heighten the sense of people who have limited sensory ability.

“The sensory room would not have been possible without a generous donation of $50,000 from the Iwasaki Foundation.”
