Specialist helicopter crews are threading wire to 122 electricity towers as Powerlink installs more than 55 kilometres of high-voltage transmission lines in the Surat Basin.

Energy Minister Mark Bailey said the electricity transmission company’s projects in the Surat were underpinning the state’s multi-billion dollar gas industry.

“By delivering these projects, Powerlink is supporting Queensland’s economic growth and securing the jobs of thousands of workers,” he said.

Powerlink recently completed the first section of a new high voltage transmission line north east of Roma.

This is part of a large program of works to install more than 200 kilometres of transmission lines across the Surat, to boost power supply for the gas industry.

It is due to be completed in early 2016.

The Liberal National Party would have sold electricity assets like Powerlink if they had won the last election.

“And don’t be fooled by their backflip on asset sales,” Mr Bailey said.
