The Honourable Mark Bailey

Pumicestone Passage boaties will benefit from a new floating walkway at Toorbul.

Main Roads, Road Safety and Ports Minister Mark Bailey said the $420,000 walkway at the Esplanade would be an asset in an area known for its fishing and boating.

“This will be a much-welcomed facility, supporting the recreational fishing and boating the area is so popular for,” Mr Bailey said.

“People come to this area specifically to enjoy beautiful Pumicestone Passage.”

Member for Pumicestone Rick Williams said the walkway would allow faster and safer boat launching and retrieval on the Esplanade boat ramp near Freeman Road.

It will also give sightseers another viewing platform to overlook the Pumicestone Passage.

“Fishing and boating is a way of life here for locals, as well as an important attraction for tourists and a boost for the local economy,” Mr Williams said.

Mayo Marine Services will start construction towards the end of May, with work expected to befinished in July, weather permitting.

Users of this ramp can expect some disruption during construction.
