The Palaszczuk Government has recognised 140 firefighters with special awards for distinguished service and dedication to the people of Queensland.

Fire Minister Jo-Ann Miller joined with Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Acting Commissioner Katarina Carroll today to present 48 National Service Medals, 24 Diligent and Ethical Service Medals and a further 77 separate awards and certificates for the G20 Leaders Summit in Brisbane last year.

“The hard working and dedicated women and men we honour today represent the very best in a profession already renowned for its high standards,” Minister Miller said.

“The National Service Medal is awarded after 15 years of outstanding duty. A clasp is then awarded for each additional 10 years of service. Today we thank 48 officers for their years of commitment to Queenslanders.

“As well, 24 officers have been awarded Diligent and Ethical Service Medals following at least 10 years of outstanding service.

“Today, we also recognize 77 members of Operation Southern Cross, who went above and beyond their normal duties to protect Queenslanders and international guests during the high security G20 Leaders Summit in Queensland.

“When the eyes of the world were on Queensland, these officers didn’t disappoint, working hard on that sweltering long weekend to help ensure Presidents, Prime Ministers and other VIPs had a safe and productive stay.

QFES Acting Commissioner Katarina Carroll said everyone recognised today has given years of dedicated service and hard work to their communities.

“Whether it’s turning out to a road traffic crash, entering a burning building or conducting building safety checks, the work of these officers makes a difference every day,” Acting Commissioner Carroll said.

“The officers have given years to their communities. They have given up time with their families and friends to help complete strangers in times of need. Our organisation is extremely proud of the officers stepping forward today to accept these awards,” Acting Commissioner Carroll said.
