Queensland students to sit annual NAPLAN tests

Up to 245,000 Queensland students are preparing to sit the eighth annual NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy) tests this week.   

Minister for Education Kate Jones thanked principals, teachers, parents and school communities for their hard work preparing students for the 2015 tests.

“I wish Queensland students in years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sitting NAPLAN the best of luck and encourage them to try to relax and simply do their best,” Ms Jones said.

“Our students and teachers have been working very hard throughout the 2015 school year. They should be confident that their efforts in the classroom have prepared them well.

“We are starting to see the positive results of Labor’s commitment to education in Queensland’s NAPLAN results.

“Following the former Labor Government’s introduction of Prep in 2007, Year 3 students have demonstrated improved NAPLAN results.

“With the transition of Year 7 to high school this year, we can expect to see improvements in Year 9 results in the coming years.

“Parents and carers can help to prepare their children for NAPLAN by making sure they get plenty of sleep and eat a healthy breakfast to stay fuelled and focused throughout the day.”

 NAPLAN tests will be used to identify student strengths, as well as areas requiring development at a class, school and state-wide level.

 The 2015 NAPLAN tests will take place on 12, 13 and 14 May.

 The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority would provide students’ NAPLAN reports to schools by August for distribution to parents.
