Queensland’s Indigenous communities can now access a free new online tool that provides key information and statistics at the click of a mouse.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Minister Curtis Pitt said the Know Your Community tool combines 26 Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data sets.

“Know Your Community is an important new asset for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders,” he said.

“It’s an easy-to-use online tool that provides key information about education and training, work and income, and housing in the State’s Indigenous communities.

“It can sort data by any Queensland Indigenous location, Local Government Area, State Electoral District or statistical area.

“This is going to be a valuable planning resource for Indigenous communities throughout the State.”

Mr Pitt said in a first for Queensland, each ABS data set had been analysed and stratified against the same data for non-Indigenous Queenslanders.

“This capability will assist in developing a business case for future investment opportunities in regional Queensland and with developing funding submissions,” he said.

“It will also enable people increase their knowledge about Queensland’s first peoples and the communities they live in.

“Know Your Community can provide accurate and consistent information each and every time you visit the website.”

Mr Pitt said the online tool was developed in partnership by the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and the Queensland Government Statistician’s Office.
