Suncorp Stadium to host Ed Sheeran as fourth concert in 2015

Deputy Premier Jackie Trad has welcomed today’s announcement that English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran will perform at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on Saturday November 28.

With hits such as “Thinking Out Loud”, “The A-Team” and “Lego House” the superstar will be the fourth major artist to play at the stadium this year.

“The Ed Sheeran concert will take Suncorp Stadium to its four concert limit for 2015,” Ms Trad said.

Under current legislation, Suncorp Stadium is limited to a maximum of four concerts per calendar year.

Foo Fighters and One Direction have performed already and Taylor Swift is due to play in the run-up to Christmas.

“Given the strong demand from national and international promoters to use Suncorp Stadium, the Government commenced consultation with Queenslanders on April 12, to see if there was an appetite for more music events at the venue.”

“As of yesterday, 1,615 people had completed an online survey that will inform a Government decision on whether to allow more concerts at the iconic venue.”

“We want to carefully map out the best way forward should the community indicate Suncorp Stadium enhances their entertainment experience enough to welcome more of the world’s leading music acts.”

“These major concerts help raise the international profile of Brisbane in the music industry and in turn bring significant economic benefits to Queensland.”

“It is wonderful that an artist like Ed Sheeran, who is used to playing at venues like Madison Square Gardens and Wembley Stadium has chosen Brisbane as a highlight of his Australian tour.”

“These events provide a real economic stimulus boost for local businesses and the local economy,” Ms Trad said.

Queenslanders can visit www.getinvolved.qld.gov.au to have their say until 12 June 2015.

Residents within the Lang Park Traffic Area can purchase tickets before they go on-sale to the general public as part of a special priority purchase offer arranged with the promoter.

To take advantage of this offer, residents should visit the Gate D Box Office at Suncorp Stadium (Caxton Street end) between 3pm and 8pm on Monday 27th April and 8am to 12 noon on Tuesday 28th April.

Please note this will be the only sales outlet at which tickets can be purchased as part of this offer.
