Works to improve safety at the intersection of Narangba Road and Anzac Avenue in Kallangur are set to start in coming weeks, Main Roads and Road Safety Minister, Mark Bailey said today.

Minister Bailey said a new left-turn slip lane would be installed, along with a pedestrian crossing and pedestrian refuge, with additional warning signs and street lighting.

Member for Kallangur Shane King welcomed the upcoming works, saying community safety was the driver behind the upgrade.

“On completion, this $600,000 project will allow pedestrians and cyclists to safely cross from the footpath and the slip lane onto a refuge island with traffic signals.

“From there, pedestrian and cyclists will be able to safely cross busy Anzac Avenue during the pedestrian phase, without being impeded by left-turning traffic.

“The project will also ensure there is a good line of sight between pedestrians and cyclists wishing to cross the slip lane, and motorists turning left from Narangba Road into Anzac Avenue.”

Work is scheduled to start on Monday, 27 April and will take up to eight weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Changed traffic conditions including traffic control devices, lane closures and speed reductions will apply during the works.

Nearby residents and businesses may experience noise and vibration impacts while the work is underway.

“I thank local businesses and local residents for their patience while these important safety works are being undertaken,” Mr King said.

The works are being delivered as part of the Queensland Government’s Safer Roads Sooner program, which aims to enhance road safety with cost-effective road treatments that target potential trouble spots on the state’s road network.
