Work has started on the extension of on-road cycle lanes along David Low Way near the Maroochy River Golf Club.

Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey said the works would enhance safety and provide better connections for cyclists riding along David Low Way.

“The cycle lanes on the northern side of David Low Way will be extended by 400 metres to the west of the Maroochy Golf Club.”

“Drainage will be installed and this section of David Low Way will be widened to accommodate the cycle lanes.”

Works will be undertaken between 6am and 6pm on weekdays and the final lane surface works will be carried out at night, when traffic is quieter.

In the interests of road safety, a reduced speed limit will be in place with some lane closures.

Mr Bailey said work crews would assess the traffic flow before closing lanes to keep disruptions to a minimum for motorists. Traffic controllers will monitor the works and signs will be in place throughout construction.

“I thank motorists and nearby residents for their patience while these important safety works are being undertaken,” Mr Bailey said.

The extended cycle lanes are expected to be in place by the middle of the year, depending on the weather.
