Minister for Health and Minister for Ambulance Services
The Honourable Cameron Dick

Minister for Health Cameron Dick has welcomed the appointment of Rachel Hunter to complete the future state realignment process commenced under the LNP.

This work will result in advice on the governance, organisational structure and capability gaps within the Department of Health.

The Future State Alignment Review project began under the former government and was designed to examine the Department of Health’s efficiency and effectiveness under the operational environment set out in the Health and Hospital Boards Act (Qld) 2011.

“Queensland needs a Department of Health that is structured for the next generation of health reform so it can function effectively to maintain front line services, deliver on patient safety and support innovation,” Mr Dick said.

“I have asked the acting Director-General Dr Michael Cleary to ensure staff remain fully informed and have appropriate avenues to express their ideas and opinions.

“Staff will have opportunities to participate in the review to shape the future of the department.”

A final report will completed by June 2015.

Ms Hunter retired from her position as Director-General of the Department of Justice and Attorney-General in 2010.

She has been the Director-General of the Department of Education, Training and the Arts, and Queensland's Public Service Commissioner.

She has also served as Chair of TAFE Queensland.

Since her retirement Ms Hunter has conducted a number of capability reviews for the Australian Government, including a review of the Commonwealth Department of Health.
