Work has started on a $400,000 safety upgrade at the intersection of Anzac Avenue and Victoria Avenue in Redcliffe.

Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey said the upgrade would extend the northbound right-turn lane on Victoria Avenue into Anzac Avenue.

“This will allow more room for motorists travelling on Victoria Avenue to safely turn right into Anzac Avenue,” he said.

Member for Redcliffe Yvette D’Ath said the works are being undertaken as part of the Queensland Government’s Safer Roads Sooner program, which is designed to improve road safety at potential trouble spots.

“These works, when completed, will make it easier and safer for motorists to negotiate this busy intersection,” Ms D’Ath said.

Initial construction to extend the right-turn lane is expected to take two weeks, weather permitting.

Additional works, including the installation of a right-turn signal for traffic westbound on Anzac Avenue into Recreation Street, and underground electrical work will be carried out next month.

All works will generally be undertaken on weekdays between 7am and 5pm.

Ms D’Ath said that, in the interests of safety, traffic control devices, reduced speed limits and single lane closures on Victoria Avenue and southbound Recreation Street would be in place while works are underway.

Right turn access in and out of the intersection of Hibiscus and Victoria Avenues will also be restricted during works, with detour signs in place.

“I thank motorists in advance for their patience while these important safety works are being carried out,” Ms D’Ath said.
