Work has begun on a $735,000 upgrade of one of Gladstone’s busiest boat ramps on Hanson Road, between the Mt Larcom Road Bridge and the power plant.

Minister for Main Roads, Road Safety and Ports, Mark Bailey, said the boat ramp, which is sometimes referred to as the Curtis Way boat ramp, would be widened with a floating walkway installed down the centre of the ramp.

Member for Gladstone Glenn Butcher said the floating walkway would be a great addition to the boat ramp, making it easier for local boaties to launch their boats in busy times.

“Local boaties will be able to temporarily tie-off their vessels when they’re launching and retrieving. It will be much safer for boaties as they will be able to get in and out of the water more quickly and easily,” Mr Butcher said.

Mr Butcher has urged boaties to be careful around the site while works are underway and to be mindful of other boaties in the vicinity during peak times, particularly during Easter.

Elite Retaining Systems has been awarded the contract for the works.

Depending on the weather, the boat ramp expansion is expected to be completed by September this year.
