The Honourable Kate Jones

Education Minister Kate Jones has congratulated 53 Queensland schools highlighted as NAPLAN ‘high gain’ schools by the Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority (ACARA).

Ms Jones said the 53 schools – 27 state, 17 Catholic and nine independent– were highlighted by ACARA for showing strong gains in their NAPLAN results between 2012 and 2014.

“ACARA highlighted these schools – along with high gain schools from other states and territories - as part of their 2015 update of school data on the My School website,” Ms Jones said.

“It’s great to see so many Queensland state schools highlighted for their strong NAPLAN gains.

“It shows how far we’ve come in Queensland state education since the introduction of NAPLAN in 2008.

“Labor introduced the Prep Year in 2006 and we are seeing its benefits in the steady improvements in outcomes for year 3.

“I look forward to seeing the positive results of moving Year 7 to secondary school in the coming years.”

Ms Jones said the My School update for 2015 gave schools and parents a valuable resource for the year ahead.

My School gives parents, teachers and school communities access a range of data so they can see how schools are performing.

“This includes seven years of NAPLAN results, five years of financial data, school profiles with detailed school and student statistical data, and local community and school information.”

A list of the 53 Queensland schools is attached.
