The Honourable Steven Miles

Day visitors and campers have another reason to visit the popular Jourama Falls section of Paluma Range National Park in north Queensland this Easter, following the completion of upgraded visitor facilities.

National Parks Minister Dr Steven Miles said the Queensland Government had spent more than $125,000 replacing aging and unreliable gas barbecues, as well as conducting a major upgrade of the campground’s sewage treatment system.

Four new barbecues have been installed in the campground and day-use areas so visitors have a reliable and efficient means of cooking, and the sewerage system has been replaced with new amenities.

“We expect the trend of increasing visitor numbers to continue into the future so the new sewerage system has been designed to cope with that,” Dr Miles said.

“It also treats the sewage in an environmentally responsible manner, which is especially important given the location of the campsite.”

Dr Miles said the upgraded facilities would further enhance the Wet Tropics’ reputation as a premier tourist destination.

“For a lot of visitors heading north, the beautiful walk to Jourama Falls is their first taste of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area,” Dr Miles said.

“We want to make sure their visit is as enjoyable as possible, and a big part of that is ensuring that the facilities are first rate.”
